Justin says: Hi Ronan, I only recently became a Lifetime member and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your articles and the deals you find for members. I especially enjoyed reading your May 12 essay about the types of investors and what type of properties to buy depending on the stage of life a person is at.

I am a 48-year-old Australian living in Macau with a young family and have spent most of my time working in Asia. You have opened my eyes to other parts of the world that I would never have even thought of. The deals you offer members really have me thinking about what is needed or what is missing in my own investment strategy, to support my family over the coming years. Multiple streams of income is what is missing. My one income is a risk to my family’s wellbeing and some of the deals are the obvious answer to my conundrum.

I will stay tuned and keep reading but my biggest challenge now is getting the wife on board. With the state of the world currently, is it even possible for me to buy a property, finance it, and open a bank account, all from my place here in sunny Macau?

Ronan says: Hi Justin. The short answer is yes. It’s never been easier to invest in real estate remotely. E-signing, international money transfer services, Zoom, virtual tours…all help to make the experience relatively seamless.

However, I do typically recommend an in-person visit where possible. The exception to that is when you’re already familiar and comfortable enough with a destination to consider yourself a “qualified” buyer. That is to say, if an unmissable deal comes up there, you can confidently pull the trigger and close the deal remotely.
