Dear Your Overseas Dream Home Reader,
As an Irish man, my home country will always have my heart. I spend my summers (when the weather here is at its best) in my home county of Cork and use that time to also explore the rest of the country.
Ireland is a small country, it’s just 302 miles long and 171 miles wide…that’s about the size of the U.S. state of Indiana.
This means that its relatively easy to get around and you’re never far from anything, whether it’s a big city, the wild beaches of the west coast, or a scenic national park.
So when it comes to picking your cheap dream home in Ireland, buying in the Irish countryside doesn’t have to mean living far from “civilisation.”
Like many places around the world, if you look beyond the popular towns and cities, you can find good-value, affordable real estate.
The cheap dream home listings my researchers found this week, are all located in tranquil, rural settings, but they are all in the perfect locations to enjoy some of the best Ireland has to offer.
Moneygall, Co. Offaly
Listing Price: €80,000 ($92,300)
Moneygall is a small town on the Offaly/Tipperary border. It came to international attention in 2011 when former president Barack Obama visited the town…his ancestors, the Kearney’s, left here in 1850 and emigrated to the U.S. There’s even a gas station named after the president!
Just outside Moneygall town is where you’ll find this former gate lodge. Bushertown Lodge has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, living/dining room, and an attic room. The interior is in need of renovation but it has double-glaze windows and the roof is in good condition. It sits on a half-acre lot and is a short drive from the motorway which will take you to the city of Limerick in just 40 minutes, and Dublin is about 90 minutes away.
Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon
Listing Price: €89,000 ($102,700)
The town of Ballaghaderreen is in County Roscommon, in the west of Ireland. A market town since the 1700s, it has a vibrant population today and is the perfect location for exploring this part of the West of Ireland. Here, you’re a 30-minute drive to Carrick-on-Shannon, a buzzing town that is the center of operations for cruises on the might Shannon River.
This charming 3-bed, 1-bath cottage is just outside the town itself, set in a quiet, rural setting. It also has a fully fitted kitchen, a living room, and a large garden.
Templeglantine, Co. Limerick
Listing Price: €95,000 ($109,600)
Templeglantine is located in the west of county Limerick, close to the border of County Kerry. Its strategic location means you can enjoy the best of both counties…the famous Killarney National Park, and the scenic Ring of Kerry are about 38 miles away, you can be in the tourist town of Tralee in 40 minutes, and the city of Limerick is just a 50-minute drive.
This cozy 2-bed, 1-bath cottage is a short drive from Templeglantine in the Limerick countryside. It also has a living room, a kitchen/dining room and there’s a glass conservatory at the rear of the house the overlooks the garden. The garden also has a paved patio area and there’s a large shed for storage.
Wishing you good real estate investing,

P.S. If you’re interested in any of these listings you should hire an attorney and do your own due diligence. I haven’t visited these properties in person or done any due diligence on them.
