A long-term contact of mine moved to Uruguay some years ago after living in Latin America for almost a decade. Uruguay, he told me, was different in many ways to other Latin countries. To illustrate his point, he told me about his first experience with the police in Uruguay.
The sky is blue… the ocean a darker shade of sapphire. Waves roll up and break on the soft cream-colored sand. Farther back, I can see big sand dunes. In the village close by, some of the homes are covered in clapboard. Others are large, spacious and modern with sleek minimalist design.
